Paikeas Taufe - Paikea´s baptism

 
Die Taufe fand zwei Tage vor der Hochzeit statt und als Ort wurde, passend zu seinem Namen, eine wild romantische Bucht im Süden Ionas ausgesucht.

Der Name „Paikea“ kommt aus der Mythologie der Maori, der Ureinwohner Neuseelands. Der Legende nach soll der erste Einwohner Neuseelands auf dem Rücken eines Wales aus Hawaiki (Hawaii) an den östlichsten Punkt Aotearoas (Neuseeland) getragen worden sein. Übersetzt bedeutet Paikea deswegen soviel wie "der (oder die) auf dem Wal reitet". Seinen zweite Namen „Noah“, brauche ich nicht groß erklären, oder? Vielleicht noch, dass er „Ruhebringer“ bedeutet und als Vermittler zwischen Gott und den Menschen gilt und sein Sinnbild der Regenbogen ist.

Während Paikea, seine Eltern und Geschwister mit der „Birthe Marie“ in See stachen, machte sich der Rest der Taufgesellschaft über eine 1-stündige Wanderung, auf den Weg zur „St. Columba´s Bay“ am südlichsten Ende von Iona.
Selbstverständlich ließ Schottland während der Wanderung kein Klischee aus: Wunderschöne Landschaft und starker Regen. Aber als wir an der Bucht ankamen, hörte der Regen auf und durch den Wind waren wir noch vor Beginn der Zeremonie schon wieder so gut wie getrocknet!

Die Taufe selbst war einzigartig! Die raue Felsenküste, das Anschlagen der Wellen, das gelegentliche Schreien der Möwen, die Lichtstimmung, Simons Stimme und Gitarre machten aus diesem Ort etwas ganz besonderes!

The baptism happened two days before the wedding and the selected location - a wild romantic bay in the south of Iona - matched perfectly his name.

The name “Paikea” comes from the mythology of the Maori’s – the native people New Zealand’s. The legend tells that the first residents of New Zealand have been carried from Hawaiki (Hawaii) to the far eastern point Aotearoas (New Zealand) on the back of a whale.
Paikea literally means tamed whale however in practice it is the name used for humpback whales in Maori. I think I don´t have to explain his middle name “Noah”. It additionally means “peaceful” and being an adjustor between God and humans. Its allegory is the rainbow.

While Paikea, his parents and his siblings set sail on the “Birthe Marie”, the rest of the party took the one hour trail to the “St Columba´s Bay” on the southern end of Iona.
Of course Scotland confirms every cliché: beautiful landscapes and heavy rain. But as soon as we reached the bay, the rain stopped and by wind we got nearly dry before the ceremony starts!

The baptism itself was unique! The rough rocky coast, the burbling from the waves, an occasional gull-call, the mood of the light and Simons voice and guitar put the bay into an outstanding place!
